eBay sold prices, averaged for you

eBay shows you a list of sold items but never the numbers that matter. The free eBay Sold Stats tool adds a small panel to eBay’s search page with the average and median sold price, sell-through rate, sales per day, best-offer share, and a suggested list price.

  • Average, median, low and high sold price
  • Suggested list price (median) and quick-sale price
  • Sell-through rate with a hot / good / slow label
  • Sales per day and % sold via best offer

How to research sold prices on eBay by hand

You don’t need any tool for this. It takes five minutes per item, and it’s how every experienced reseller prices.

  1. 1

Sign in and search for your item

eBay only shows sold results to signed-in members, so log in first. Search the way a buyer would: brand, model, pattern or size (for example pyrex 403 butterprint). Specific searches give cleaner comps.

  2. 2

Turn on the “Sold Items” filter

On a computer, scroll the left-hand filters to Show only and tick Sold Items (this also ticks Completed Items). In the eBay app, tap Filter, then switch on Sold items. The URL now contains LH_Sold=1.

  3. 3

    Read the prices correctly

Green prices sold. A green price with a line through it means Best Offer accepted: the buyer paid less, and eBay hides the real amount. Check condition and shipping too, since a $20 item with $15 shipping is a different sale from a $35 item with free shipping.

  4. 4

Work out the average and median

Skip lots, parts-only listings and anything that isn’t really your item. Add up the rest and divide by how many there are for the average. For the median, sort the prices and take the middle one. One silly $300 sale skews the average; the median ignores it, so price from the median.

  5. 5

    Calculate the sell-through rate

Note the sold result count (“1,234 results”), then untick Sold Items and note the active count. Sell-through rate = sold ÷ (sold + active). eBay’s sold search covers roughly the last 90 days.

eBay sell-through rate, worked out

Sell-through rate (STR) tells you how many listings actually find a buyer. The formula:

STR = sold ÷ (sold + active)

Example: “pyrex 403 butterprint” shows 300 sold results and 450 active listings. 300 ÷ (300 + 450) = 300 ÷ 750 = 40%. Roughly two in five listings sell, which is a good, steady item.

  • Over 60% · HotSells fast. Price at or just above the median.
  • 30–60% · GoodSteady demand. Price at the median and be ready for offers.
  • Under 30% · SlowLots of competition. Price toward the quick-sale end or pass on it.

The result counts are approximate (eBay rounds big numbers, e.g. “66,000+”), so treat STR as a guide rather than an exact figure.

The shortcut: eBay Sold Stats for Chrome

Switch on eBay Sold Stats in the FlipperTools extension and the maths is done as you search. It works on eBay.com, .co.uk, .ca, .com.au and .de.

  • On sold searches

Average, median, range, median including shipping, sales per day, best-offer share and a price histogram, from the listings on the page.

  • Sell-through, automatically

It checks the matching active search once and shows the sell-through rate with a hot, good or slow label.

  • On active searches

The active count and median asking price, plus a one-click “See sold stats” switch to the sold view.

It only reads the eBay search page you already have open. Your searches aren’t sent to FlipperTools.

eBay sold price FAQ

How do I check sold items on eBay?+

Sign in to eBay, search for the item, then in the left-hand filters under “Show only” tick “Sold Items”. In the eBay app, tap Filter and switch on “Sold items”. Green prices are what items actually sold for; a crossed-out green price means a best offer was accepted for less.

Why can’t I see sold listings on eBay?+

eBay now asks you to sign in before it shows sold results. If the Sold Items filter sends you to a login page, sign in and it will show the results. Sold results cover roughly the last 90 days.

How do I find the average sold price on eBay?+

eBay doesn’t show one. Filter your search to sold items, leave out listings that aren’t the same item, add up the prices and divide by how many there are. The median (the middle price once sorted) is usually a better guide because a few unusual sales can pull the average up or down. The FlipperTools extension works out both for you.

What is a good sell-through rate on eBay?+

Sell-through rate is sold listings divided by sold plus active listings. Over 60% is hot and sells quickly, 30–60% is healthy, and under 30% means there are far more listings than buyers, so expect to wait or price lower.

How do I calculate eBay sell-through rate?+

Take the number of sold results for your search and the number of active results for the same search. Sell-through rate = sold ÷ (sold + active). For example, 300 sold and 450 active gives 300 ÷ 750 = 40%.

Can I see the real price when a best offer was accepted?+

Not on the search page. eBay crosses out the listed price and hides the accepted amount. The FlipperTools panel shows what share of sales went by best offer so you know how much the prices may be overstated.

Is the eBay Sold Stats extension free?+

Yes. It is a free tool in the FlipperTools Chrome extension, with no account needed. It reads the search page you are already looking at in your browser and does not send your searches to FlipperTools.
