Reseller profit FAQ
Which marketplace has the lowest fees for resellers?+
It depends on the price. Vinted charges US and UK sellers no selling fee (buyers pay a protection fee instead), and Facebook Marketplace local pickup is free. For shipped sales, Depop US (no selling fee, only payment processing) is usually cheapest, then Mercari and Whatnot, then eBay. Poshmark takes 20% on sales of $15 or more, so it is usually the most expensive on higher-priced items but cheap under $15. Enter your own numbers above to see the exact ranking for your item.
How is profit calculated?+
Profit is what the marketplace pays out (sale price plus any shipping you collect, minus every fee) minus your shipping label and what you paid for the item. Sales tax is collected and paid by the marketplace, so it is never part of your profit, but on eBay, Depop, Etsy, Whatnot and Facebook Marketplace some fees are charged on the tax too, which this calculator includes.
What is the difference between margin and ROI?+
Margin is profit as a percentage of the sale: a $20 profit on a $50 sale is a 40% margin. ROI (return on investment) is profit as a percentage of what you paid: a $20 profit on a $5 item is a 400% ROI. Resellers use ROI to decide what to buy and margin to compare marketplaces.
How do I work out what to list something at?+
Switch to "What should I list it at?", pick a profit, margin or ROI goal, and the calculator solves for the lowest list price on every marketplace. It also shows the most you can pay for the item at your sale price, which is handy when you are standing in a thrift store.
Can I share my results?+
Yes. The page address updates as you type, so you can bookmark or send the link. "Share your flip" makes a square image of the sale (bought for, sold for, profit) you can post to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook groups or Discord. Nothing is uploaded; the image is drawn in your browser.
Are these fees up to date?+
Every marketplace’s fees were checked against its official help pages in September 2026. Each marketplace’s calculator page lists the exact sources. Fees change often, so check the source before a big decision.
