How the estimate works

We search eBay for listings that match your description right now, up to 100 of them. Accessories, bundles and other prices far outside the pack are dropped, and the rest become the price range you see in the chart.

Those are asking prices, not sale prices. Most items sell for less than they’re listed at, so the estimated value is the middle half of asking prices, discounted by about 12%. eBay only shares true sold prices with approved partners. The FlipperTools Chrome extension adds eBay sold stats right on eBay’s search pages if you want them.

List at is the typical asking price, so you sit mid-pack with room to take an offer. Quick sale is priced at the cheaper end of expected sale prices, for when you want it gone. The listing count tells you how crowded the market is: hundreds of similar listings means buyers can shop around, so sharp photos and a fair price matter more.

FAQ

How do I find out what my item is worth?+

Type a short description of the item (brand, model and what it is, for example “Pyrex 403 mixing bowl”) and pick new or used. We search current eBay listings for the same thing, drop the odd-one-out prices, and show you the typical range, a suggested list price and a quick-sale price.

Are these sold prices?+

Not directly. eBay only shares sold data with approved partners, so the numbers come from items listed for sale right now (asking prices). Things usually sell for a bit less than they are listed at, so we discount asking prices by about 12% to estimate the sale price. For exact sold prices, the FlipperTools Chrome extension adds sold stats to eBay search pages.

What price should I list at?+

“List at” is the going asking price among similar listings. Pricing there puts you in the middle of the pack and leaves room to accept a best offer. If you want the item gone fast, use the “Quick sale” price, which sits at the cheaper end of what similar items sell for.

Why does the estimate look off for my item?+

The estimate is only as good as the search. Very broad words (“vintage lamp”) mix different items together; very specific ones (a full model number plus size and colour) can match too few listings. Add the brand and model, drop colours and sizes, and set the condition to match yours.

Is it free? Why is there a daily limit?+

Yes. You get 5 lookups a day without an account, or 30 a day with a free FlipperTools account, which also saves your recent lookups. The limit exists because every lookup queries eBay, and eBay caps how often we can do that.

Does it work for items that aren’t on eBay?+

It checks eBay US only, which is the biggest resale marketplace and a good guide to value elsewhere. Prices on Poshmark, Mercari and Depop are usually in the same range, but fees differ, so compare what you’d keep with the reseller profit calculator.
