About the Pentax SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7

A compact all-metal manual-focus 50mm f/1.7 for the Pentax K mount, introduced in 1977 alongside the ME and MX. It fits any K-mount film or digital Pentax and adapts easily to mirrorless cameras. Check for haze, fungus, and oily aperture blades.

What affects the price

  • Fungus (web-like threads), haze or separation inside the glass. Shine a flashlight through the lens to check.
  • Oily or sticky aperture blades, and a smooth, even focus ring.
  • Scratches on the front element and cleaning marks. Light dust is normal and barely affects price.
  • Front and rear caps, the hood and the original box add a little; the mount matters most for who can use it.
