About the Pyrex Butterprint 401 Mixing Bowl
Butterprint (1957–1968) shows an Amish-style farm scene of a farmer and wife with a bushel of crops, roosters and corn, most often turquoise on white or the reverse. The 401 is the smallest bowl of the nesting set, at 1.5 pints. Dishwasher detergent dulls and fades the fired-on color, so glossy, unscratched pieces with strong color are worth the most.
What affects the price
- Colour strength and gloss. Dishwasher detergent dulls and fades the paint, which is the biggest price factor.
- Chips, cracks and utensil marks (grey scratches) inside the bowl.
- Rare colourways and complete, matching sets sell for more than single bowls.
- Reproductions and newer pieces exist; check the backstamp.
