StockX and GOAT don’t have listings in the usual sense. Every pair of a given model and size sits on one product page, sellers compete on price, and the platform authenticates the shoes between seller and buyer. You never write a description or shoot photos of a new pair — you just name a price. That makes them the fastest way to sell hyped, deadstock sneakers and a poor fit for anything the catalog can’t describe.
What sells here
Experience, not StockX or GOAT data: current and recent Jordan, Nike Dunk, Yeezy-era adidas, New Balance collabs and other releases with a clear resale market, in popular sizes, sell best. Brand-new general-release runners at or below retail often don’t cover the fees. StockX also runs apparel, electronics, collectibles, trading cards and handbags, all new. For worn designer and streetwear clothing, Grailed is usually the better home.
StockX: Asks, Sell Now and seller levels
StockX’s Verified Marketplace is for new, unworn items. Buyers either Buy Now at the lowest Ask or place an Offer (formerly called a bid). As a seller you have two moves:
- Sell Now sells immediately to the highest current Offer — quick, but usually below the lowest Ask.
- Place an Ask at your price for 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 or 60 days. If yours is the lowest Ask, the next buyer gets your pair. You can change or cancel it until it matches.
Your transaction fee depends on your Seller Level, which is set by sales in a calendar quarter across StockX’s marketplaces. Reach a level and you keep it for the rest of that quarter and the next one.
| Level | Sales per quarter | Transaction fee |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | None | 9% |
| 2 | 12 sales or $1,500 | 8.5% |
| 3 | 40 sales or $5,000 | 8% |
| 4 | 200 sales or $25,000 | 7.5% |
| 5 | 800 sales or $100,000 | 7% |
On top of that: a 3% payment processing fee at every level, a $5 minimum seller fee in the US, and a $5 seller shipping fee on standard US sales (it rose from $4 on March 1, 2026). StockX’s newer Listings Marketplace takes used and unique items with seller photos and charges sellers nothing at launch, but selling there is limited to select US sellers with a waitlist.
GOAT: listing, seller rating and consignment
GOAT needs an approved seller account. You search the SKU (printed on the box label or inside the shoe), pick size and condition, and set a price. Unlike StockX, GOAT takes used and new-with-defects pairs; for those, or if your seller rating is under 100, you must photograph the actual pair.
GOAT’s commission depends on a seller rating. Everyone starts at 90; each cancellation costs 10 points and each successful sale adds 2.
| Seller rating | Commission (US) |
|---|---|
| 90 and up | 9.5% + seller fee |
| 70–89 | 15% + seller fee |
| 50–69 | 20% + seller fee |
| Under 50 | Suspended; anything that still sells pays 25% |
The US seller fee is $5 with a prepaid label or $0 if you drop off at a GOAT location (Canadian sellers pay 12.4% commission). Your earnings become GOAT credit once the pair passes verification, and cashing out to a bank or PayPal costs 2.9%.
Ship-to-verify vs consignment. Normally you keep the pair and ship it only after it sells (GOAT calls this Ship-to-Verify for buyers). Consignment means GOAT holds your pair in storage so it can ship to buyers faster. It’s offered to eligible sellers (including through GOAT’s alias seller app, as Ship to Consign or Drop Off to Consign), and GOAT may charge storage fees on consigned pairs that sit unsold. If a pair turns up at GOAT after a cancellation, GOAT will consign it for you at 10% above the lowest price or ship it back at your cost.
Your first sale, step by step
- Check the market. Look at the lowest Ask, highest Offer and recent sales for your exact SKU and size on both apps before pricing.
- Confirm the pair qualifies. StockX Verified: new, unworn, original box. GOAT: choose the true condition and note box damage or missing accessories.
- Set up payouts. Add your payout method. StockX takes any penalty fees out of your payouts, or charges your card on file if they don’t cover it.
- List. On StockX place an Ask (or Sell Now); on GOAT set a price and add photos if required. Check the payout preview, which shows every fee.
- When it sells, ship fast. Print the prepaid label from the app, pack the shoebox inside a shipping box, and drop it at the carrier within the deadline.
- Get paid after verification. Both pay out once the pair passes inspection.
Fees side by side
A new seller selling a $200 pair, using a prepaid label on both:
| StockX (Level 1) | GOAT (rating 90+) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sale price | $200.00 | $200.00 |
| Commission / transaction fee | 9% = $18.00 | 9.5% = $19.00 |
| Processing / seller fee | 3% = $6.00 | $5.00 |
| Shipping fee | $5.00 | — |
| Cash-out fee | — | 2.9% × $176 = $5.10 |
| You keep | $171.00 | $170.90 |
At $200 they’re a wash; the real difference is which one has the higher Ask or Offer for your size that day. At low prices the fixed fees hurt: a $50 pair on StockX pays the $5 minimum, $1.50 processing and $5 shipping — roughly $11 or 23% — before you’ve bought a box. GOAT drop-off, if a location is near you, saves the $5 seller fee.
Shipping to the authenticator
- StockX: ship within 2 business days of the sale (release-day sales get extra time; you can request a 24-hour extension). Use the label for that sale, put the invoice inside, and pack the shoebox in a shipping box no more than 2 inches bigger on each side, H-taped with 2-inch tape. Most US sellers get a UPS label.
- GOAT: ship within 3 business days. One pair per box, shoebox inside a cardboard shipping box — never ship in the shoebox alone — and mark the order Dropped Off in the app. Drop at an official carrier location: GOAT isn’t liable for packages left at access points and lockers.
The penalty fees
StockX can charge a $15 penalty for missing the ship window, and penalty fees also apply when an item doesn’t meet its condition standards or match the listing. GOAT charges $10 for a cancellation or late shipment, $10 for an issue found at verification, $15 for a replica, plus return shipping. Counterfeits may not come back at all. When eBay beats StockX and GOAT
eBay’s athletic shoe fee is 8% of the total sale with no per-order fee when the sale is $150 or more (7% with a Basic store or above), and 13.6% plus $0.40 below $150. Eligible sneakers — new or pre-owned, in the men’s, women’s and kids’ athletic shoe categories — go through eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee: you get a free prepaid FedEx label to the authenticator, must ship within 3 business days, and eBay covers the authentication cost. eBay now sets the price threshold by model, starting at $75 on its seller page, so check whether your listing shows the badge.
On the same $200 pair, eBay’s fee is 8% of the total the buyer pays — item, any shipping and sales tax — so roughly $16–$19, and you’d keep about $181–$184: $10–$13 more than StockX or GOAT. The trade-off: you write the listing, take photos and handle offers, and eBay’s money-back guarantee lets buyers return a pair that isn’t as described. For used pairs, the photos are needed anyway. Run your own numbers in the calculator below, and see our eBay beginner’s guide if you’ve never listed there.
Common mistakes
- Selling Now into a thin market. The highest Offer on a slow size can be far below recent sales. Place an Ask instead.
- Listing tried-on pairs as new. StockX Verified means unworn; creasing or sole wear fails verification and costs a penalty.
- Shipping in the shoebox. Both require an outer box. A crushed box can fail condition standards.
- Missing the ship window. On GOAT each cancellation drops your rating 10 points, so a new seller’s first cancellation (90 to 80) raises the commission from 9.5% to 15%.
- Forgetting GOAT’s cash-out fee. 2.9% of your credit balance comes off when you withdraw.
- Never checking eBay. Above $150, eBay’s 8% plus free authentication is often the higher payout.

FAQ
What are StockX seller fees in 2026?
On the Verified Marketplace you pay a transaction fee set by your Seller Level (9% at Level 1 down to 7% at Level 5) plus a 3% payment processing fee, with a $5 minimum seller fee in the US. US sellers also pay a $5 shipping fee on standard sales, up from $4 on March 1, 2026. A $200 sale at Level 1 pays out about $171.
What is the difference between Sell Now and an Ask on StockX?
Sell Now sells immediately to the highest current buyer Offer, even if it is below the lowest Ask. An Ask sets your own price and waits for a buyer to meet it; you choose how long it stays live (1 to 60 days) and can change or cancel it until it matches.
How much does GOAT take from a sale?
A seller in good standing pays a 9.5% commission plus a seller fee that depends on location: $5 in the US with a prepaid label, $0 if you use drop-off. Cashing out to a bank or PayPal costs another 2.9%. Cancellations and failed verifications lower your seller rating, which can raise the commission to 15%, 20% or 25%.
Can you sell used sneakers on StockX or GOAT?
GOAT accepts used and new-with-defects pairs; you choose the condition and must upload photos of the actual pair. StockX’s main Verified Marketplace is for new, unworn items only. Its Listings Marketplace for used items has no seller fees at launch but is open only to select US sellers with a waitlist.
Is it cheaper to sell sneakers on eBay than StockX or GOAT?
Often, above $150. eBay charges 8% of the total sale with no per-order fee on athletic shoes of $150 or more (7% with a Basic store or above), and eligible pairs are authenticated for free with a prepaid label. Under $150 eBay charges 13.6% plus $0.40, and StockX or GOAT may win on convenience.
