About the Canon FD 50mm f/1.8

Canon’s standard 50mm f/1.8 for the FD mount, made in an original breech-lock S.C. version from 1973 and a New FD (bayonet-style) version from 1979 with the same six-element optics. It fits every FD-mount camera and is widely adapted to mirrorless bodies. Check for haze, fungus, and oil on the aperture blades.

What affects the price

  • Fungus (web-like threads), haze or separation inside the glass. Shine a flashlight through the lens to check.
  • Oily or sticky aperture blades, and a smooth, even focus ring.
  • Scratches on the front element and cleaning marks. Light dust is normal and barely affects price.
  • Front and rear caps, the hood and the original box add a little; the mount matters most for who can use it.
