About the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D
Nikon’s compact F-mount 50mm f/1.8, introduced in 2002 to replace the earlier non-D AF version. It has no built-in focus motor, so it only autofocuses on bodies with a screw drive; entry-level DSLRs such as the D3000/D5000 series focus it manually. Check the aperture ring and that autofocus works.
What affects the price
- Fungus (web-like threads), haze or separation inside the glass. Shine a flashlight through the lens to check.
- Oily or sticky aperture blades, and a smooth, even focus ring.
- Scratches on the front element and cleaning marks. Light dust is normal and barely affects price.
- Front and rear caps, the hood and the original box add a little; the mount matters most for who can use it.
