About the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G
Nikon’s F-mount 50mm f/1.8 with a built-in AF-S focus motor and an aspherical element, announced in April 2011. Unlike the older 1.8D it autofocuses on every Nikon DSLR; the retro-styled Special Edition is excluded here. Check that autofocus and the manual-override focus ring work.
What affects the price
- Fungus (web-like threads), haze or separation inside the glass. Shine a flashlight through the lens to check.
- Oily or sticky aperture blades, and a smooth, even focus ring.
- Scratches on the front element and cleaning marks. Light dust is normal and barely affects price.
- Front and rear caps, the hood and the original box add a little; the mount matters most for who can use it.
