About the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/3.5
Vivitar’s constant-f/3.5 Series 1 zoom, first made by Kiron (1973–1981, serials starting 22, with a 1:2 macro setting) and then by Tokina (serials starting 37); the later f/2.8–4 version is excluded. It was sold in many manual-focus SLR mounts. Check the mount, and look for haze, fungus, and a smooth zoom and focus.
What affects the price
- Fungus (web-like threads), haze or separation inside the glass. Shine a flashlight through the lens to check.
- Oily or sticky aperture blades, and a smooth, even focus ring.
- Scratches on the front element and cleaning marks. Light dust is normal and barely affects price.
- Front and rear caps, the hood and the original box add a little; the mount matters most for who can use it.
