Vinted is one of Europe’s biggest second-hand clothing apps and a growing option in the US, and it works differently from almost everything else in reselling. There’s no final value fee, no commission and no processing fee for private sellers. That makes it the best-margin platform on paper — and a place where buyers expect lower prices, because they’re the ones paying the fees.
How the buyer-pays model works
When a buyer checks out, they pay three things: your item price, a Buyer Protection fee, and the shipping for the option they chose. You receive the item price, in full, when the order completes.
| US | UK | |
|---|---|---|
| Seller fee (private sellers) | $0 | £0 |
| Buyer Protection (paid by buyer) | $0.70 + 5% of item price | Usually 3–8% + £0.30–£0.80 |
| Shipping | Paid by the buyer, based on carrier and parcel size | |
Worked example
A US seller lists a pair of jeans at $30. The buyer pays $30 + $2.20 Buyer Protection ($0.70 + 5% × $30) + shipping. The seller receives $30.00. The same $30 sale on Poshmark nets $24; on eBay US with $8 buyer-paid shipping, about $24.43 before tax. (Run your own numbers in our Vinted fee calculator.)
The catch is that buyers see the all-in price. A $30 item costs the buyer around $38–$40 once protection and shipping are added, so Vinted buyers push prices down harder than on eBay. The practical way to think about it: your list price on Vinted can be lower than elsewhere and still net you more.
UK sellers: compare with eBay UK too
Since October 1, 2024, eBay.co.uk has also charged private sellers no final value fee in most categories, with buyers paying a Buyer Protection fee instead. For UK private sellers the question isn’t “which is cheaper” but “where is my buyer” — Vinted for everyday fashion, eBay for branded, collectible and non-clothing items.Listing on Vinted
- Photos: up to 20. Lead with a clean, well-lit shot of the whole item, then the brand tag, size tag, fabric and any flaws. Worn photos help for fitted items.
- Title and description: brand, item type, color and size in the title; measurements, condition and fit notes in the description. Vinted’s search leans heavily on the brand and category fields, so fill them accurately.
- Parcel size: Vinted suggests one from the category, size and brand. Check it — choose the size your packed item actually fits, because it sets which carriers and prices the buyer sees.
- One item, one listing: Vinted doesn’t allow duplicate listings, and new listings go through an automated check that can take from a minute to a few days.
Offers and bundles
Buyers can make an offer of up to 40% below your price (UK), and offers aren’t binding — the item stays available until someone actually buys it. Offers can’t cover postage or fees. Our approach: counter rather than decline, and accept quickly on items that have been sitting.
Set up bundle discounts in your settings: tiered percentages for two, three or five-plus items. Bundles are where Vinted margins come from, because the buyer pays one shipping charge and you pack one parcel. Vinted Pro sellers can’t offer bundle discounts.
Shipping and labels
After a sale, Vinted gives you the label or code for the carrier the buyer chose. You must ship with that label; using a different one cancels the order.
- UK carriers include Evri, InPost, DPD, Royal Mail and others. Evri offers a printable label or a QR code that the ParcelShop prints for you; InPost uses lockers and shops.
- US carriers include USPS (show a QR code at the post office, or print a label for home pickup), plus FedEx, SpeedX and Vinted Go drop-off points in some areas.
Printing Vinted labels on 4×6
If you print at home, the label PDF is laid out for a full A4 (or US letter) sheet and there’s no setting to change it. On a laser or inkjet printer that’s fine — print, cut, tape. On a 4×6 thermal printer, “fit to page” shrinks the whole sheet so the barcode is tiny, and 100% scale cuts it off. The fix is to crop the PDF down to just the label and print that at 100% on 4×6 (100×150 mm) stock. Our Vinted 4×6 label page explains the printer settings, and the free FlipperTools extension does the crop automatically when you download the label.
Getting paid
The order completes when the buyer taps “Everything is OK”, or automatically two days after delivery if they don’t raise a problem. The money then moves to your available Vinted Balance, which Vinted says happens within two days, and you can transfer it to your bank. Balance can’t be topped up and is used automatically if you buy on Vinted yourself.
Bumps and Showcase
Vinted’s two paid promotions are optional and priced at checkout rather than on a public rate card:
- Bumps push an individual item up for 3 or 7 days, or until it sells. You can lower the price during a Bump but not raise it.
- Showcase (formerly Wardrobe Spotlight) promotes up to 15 of your listings for 7 days; you need at least 5 active listings.
Our experience: Bumps work on fairly priced items that got buried by newer listings, and on seasonal items at the start of their season. They don’t fix overpricing. Before paying, check whether the item already has views and favorites; if it does, send an offer or drop the price instead.
What sells on Vinted
Experience, not Vinted data: in the UK and EU, the fast movers are high-street and sportswear brands, kidswear, trainers, everyday denim and knitwear, and vintage at sensible prices. Price points are lower than on eBay; items under about £20 sell in volume. Premium brands sell, but buyers bargain hard. In the US the buyer pool is younger and smaller than on Poshmark or eBay, so treat Vinted as a zero-fee crosslist rather than your only channel — our crosslisting guide covers how to keep inventory in sync.
Tax reporting in the UK and EU
Vinted must collect information from, and report to HMRC or EU tax authorities, sellers who make 30 or more sales or earn more than €2,000 (about £1,700) in a calendar year. That reporting doesn’t mean you owe tax — casual sales of your own used clothes usually aren’t trading — but if you’re buying to resell, keep records.
Common mistakes
- Pricing like eBay. Buyers see your price plus fees plus shipping. Price for the all-in total they’ll pay.
- Picking the wrong parcel size. Too small and the parcel may not fit the carrier’s limits; too large and buyers see higher shipping and scroll on.
- Using your own label. The order is cancelled and you lose the sale’s protections.
- Ignoring offers. Offers aren’t binding for the buyer either — a slow reply usually means they bought elsewhere.
- No bundle discount. It’s the easiest way to raise order value on a low-price platform.
- Bumping overpriced items. You pay to show more people a price they already rejected.

FAQ
Is it really free to sell on Vinted?
For private sellers, yes: Vinted charges no listing or selling fee. The buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee on top of your price (in the US $0.70 + 5% of the item price; in the UK usually 3–8% + £0.30–£0.80) and pays for shipping. Your only optional costs are promotions such as Bumps and Showcase. Vinted Pro business accounts have separate terms.
How do Vinted shipping labels work?
The buyer picks and pays for a shipping option at checkout. After the sale Vinted gives you a prepaid label or a code for that carrier. Depending on the carrier you either print the label or show a QR code at a drop-off point and they print it. You must use the label Vinted provides; shipping with a different one cancels the order.
Can I print Vinted labels on a 4×6 thermal printer?
Yes, but not directly. Vinted has no label-size setting, and the label PDF is laid out for a full A4 or letter sheet, so a 4×6 printer either shrinks it or cuts it off. Crop the PDF to just the label first, or use a QR code at a drop-off point that prints labels for you.
When does Vinted pay the seller?
An order completes when the buyer confirms everything is OK, or automatically two days after delivery if they do not report a problem. The money then moves from pending to your available Vinted Balance, which Vinted says happens within two days, and you can transfer it to your bank.
Are Vinted Bumps worth it?
Sometimes. A Bump raises an item’s visibility for 3 or 7 days (or until it sells) and the price, shown at checkout, depends on the item price and duration. They work best on items that are priced competitively but buried under newer listings. If an item has lots of views and favorites but no sale, the price is the problem, not the visibility.
Will Vinted report my sales to the tax authorities?
Under the UK platform reporting rules and the EU’s DAC7 rules, Vinted must collect details from and report sellers who make 30 or more sales or more than €2,000 (about £1,700) in a calendar year. Reporting is not a tax in itself; whether you owe tax depends on whether you are trading, which you should check with your tax authority.
