About the Contax G2
Released in 1996, the Contax G2 is a titanium-clad autofocus rangefinder for Contax G-mount Zeiss lenses. Compared with the 1994 G1 it adds active autofocus, a top speed of 1/4000 s and a black finish option.
What affects the price
- Rangefinder alignment: the double image should merge cleanly at infinity and close up.
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- A clean, bright viewfinder with no haze in the rangefinder patch.

How much is a Contax G2 worth?+
As of October 2026, a used Contax G2 (body only) typically sells for about $2,101–$2,671, based on 27 current eBay listings. Asking prices are discounted about 12% to estimate what it actually sells for.
What should I list a Contax G2 for?+
List at around $2,652.99 to sit mid-pack with room for offers, or around $2,100.99 to sell it quickly. Condition, what’s included and good photos move it up or down.
Are these sold prices?+
No. eBay only shares sold prices with approved partners, so this guide uses current asking prices on eBay (items for sale right now), drops accessories, parts-only and outlier listings, and discounts the middle of the range to estimate the sale price. It is updated weekly.
Does the Contax G2 price include a lens?+
No. The guide prices the body alone: listings that include a lens are left out. A lens adds its own value; see the lens guides.
How do I check the value of my own Contax G2?+
