About the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s
The Hi-Matic 7s, introduced in 1966 as an update of the 1963 Hi-Matic 7, is a rangefinder with a fixed Rokkor-PF 45mm f/1.8 lens. The later Hi-Matic 7s II is a different, smaller camera and is not included here.
What affects the price
- Rangefinder alignment: the double image should merge cleanly at infinity and close up.
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- A clean, bright viewfinder with no haze in the rangefinder patch.
