About the Nikon F2
Nikon’s all-mechanical professional F2 (1971) has a titanium-curtain shutter to 1/2000 sec and needs batteries only for the meter in its Photomic finders. The finder sets the name (F2 Photomic, F2S, F2SB, F2A, F2AS), and all are priced together here, so check which head is included.
What affects the price
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- Viewfinder and prism: haze, fungus or de-silvering (dark bands) in the finder.
- Film-tested listings, with sample photos, sell for more than “untested”.
