How Whatnot fees work in 2026
Whatnot takes two fees from every sale: a commission on the item price and a payment processing fee on the full order. Since September 21, 2026 the commission rate depends on your category and your sales over the last 28 days.
- Commission: 8% on the item price for most categories at the standard tier (4% for coins), falling to as low as 4% for high-volume sellers.
- Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 on item + shipping + tax.
- High-value orders: no commission on the part of an order above $1,500 in eligible categories.
- Shipping: the buyer pays Whatnot for the label.
Worked example
You sell a jacket in a Whatnot fashion show for $50. The buyer pays $6 shipping. You paid $15 for it.

How much does Whatnot take in 2026?+
Most new sellers pay an 8% commission on the item’s sale price (4% on coins) plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing on the full order, including shipping and tax. On a $50 item with $6 shipping and no tax that is $4 + $1.92, or about $5.92.
What changed with Whatnot fees in September 2026?+
From September 21, 2026 Whatnot’s commission depends on your category and on how much you sold in the previous 28 days. Sellers with $15,000 or more in sales drop into lower tiers, down to 4–6.5% depending on category. Processing stays at 2.9% + $0.30.
Does Whatnot take a fee on shipping?+
Commission is charged only on the item price. Payment processing (2.9% + $0.30) is charged on the whole order, including the shipping and tax the buyer pays.
What is the Whatnot high-value order promotion?+
In eligible categories (trading cards, coins, comics, toys, bags, jewelry and watches) Whatnot charges no commission on the part of a single order above $1,500. A $2,000 card pays 8% on $1,500 = $120 commission, plus processing on the full amount.
