About the Leica M6
The Leica M6, often called the M6 Classic, was made in Germany from 1984 to 1998. It is a mechanical 35mm rangefinder for Leica M-mount lenses with a built-in light meter. This guide prices the body only and excludes the later M6 TTL.
What affects the price
- Rangefinder alignment: the double image should merge cleanly at infinity and close up.
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
