About the Pentax K1000
The K1000 is a fully mechanical, manual-exposure SLR made from 1976 to 1997, with production moving from Japan to Hong Kong and later China; over three million were sold. It takes Pentax K-mount lenses, and its LR44/SR44 battery powers only the light meter.
What affects the price
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- Viewfinder and prism: haze, fungus or de-silvering (dark bands) in the finder.
