About the Pentax KX
The KX was one of the three original Pentax K-mount SLRs of 1975, sitting between the KM and the K2. It has a silicon photodiode meter, aperture and shutter speed display in the viewfinder, and mirror lock-up. It is unrelated to the digital Pentax K-x.
What affects the price
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- Viewfinder and prism: haze, fungus or de-silvering (dark bands) in the finder.
- Film-tested listings, with sample photos, sell for more than “untested”.
