About the Sony Walkman TPS-L2

The TPS-L2 is the original Sony Walkman, launched in Japan on July 1, 1979 and in the US in June 1980. Check that it plays at the right speed (old drive belts stretch), that the battery compartment is free of corrosion, and whether the original headphones are included.

What affects the price

  • Whether it plays at the right speed. Old drive belts stretch; a recently replaced belt adds value.
  • Battery compartment corrosion and a working headphone jack.
  • Clean, working auto-reverse, radio and recording (on models that have them).
  • Cosmetic condition matters a lot for collectible Walkmans.
