About the Sony Walkman WM-2

The Walkman II (WM-2), released in 1981, was a much smaller follow-up to the original TPS-L2. Check that it plays at a steady speed (belts dry out after decades) and look for battery corrosion.

What affects the price

  • Whether it plays at the right speed. Old drive belts stretch; a recently replaced belt adds value.
  • Battery compartment corrosion and a working headphone jack.
  • Clean, working auto-reverse, radio and recording (on models that have them).
  • Cosmetic condition matters a lot for collectible Walkmans.
