About the Sega Genesis
The Sega Genesis launched in North America in August 1989. The original Model 1 has a front headphone jack and volume slider that the smaller Model 2 dropped. Sega CD, 32X, Nomad and Genesis Mini listings are excluded from this guide.
What affects the price
- Whether it’s tested with a game: disc drives that don’t read or cartridge slots that need re-seating lower the price.
- What’s included: power supply, video cable and one original controller are expected.
- Yellowing, cracks and missing screws or labels.
- Mods (region-free, custom firmware, HDMI) change the buyer pool, so they’re left out of this guide.
