About the Yashica FX-3
The Yashica FX-3 (1979) is a simple manual SLR with a mechanical metal-bladed shutter to 1/1000 sec. Its Contax/Yashica mount also accepts Carl Zeiss Contax lenses. The later FX-3 Super and FX-3 Super 2000 are different models.
What affects the price
- Whether the shutter fires at every speed. Slow speeds that drag or a shutter that sticks cut the value sharply.
- Light seals and the mirror bumper: sticky or crumbling foam causes light leaks. Cheap to fix, but buyers price it in.
- Battery compartment corrosion and whether the light meter still reads.
- Viewfinder and prism: haze, fungus or de-silvering (dark bands) in the finder.
